Ouch!

The last thing I want to do is radiate my suffering out to others, so this post is how one lady's blisters and callouses are doing.

It's been a particularly blistering campaign.  (No shit, Sherlock.)

No place for tender tootsies, right?

A waitress and I got into it before the election, when I heard her claim that HC believed that aborting fetuses right up to full term was alright.  Well...she used stronger words than these.  Sounded a lot like something her opponent would say.  I'd sat quietly in my booth eating my breakfast, while she ranted.  Her customers agreed; Hilary was reprehensible. You've probably encountered this stuff on Facebook, but here it was, in the middle of my breakfast.   The owner chimed right in.

Finally, I blurted out "This is a lie!".   And more.  But she claimed it was true.   "Right there, in the third debate!" she said.  Well, I'd watched every minute of the third debate and didn't recall HC making this claim.

We agreed to disagree, hugged, and I paid for the breakfast and the blisters.  I resolved to look up the debate transcript and did, to be sure.

I found HC's response when DT put such horrible words in her mouth.

Legalese.

>>sigh<<

She had voted against late term abortion, but didn't say so.  She made this longwinded rebuttal, staying in her head.  Doesn't she know the head is the least tender organ of the body and abortion requires a tender touch?

>>sigh<<

I returned to the Diner and talked to the owner, telling her I'd looked up what was said in the third debate.  That HC had voted against the very thing she was being accused of.  But the legalese dance she did sounded somewhat calloused.

>>sigh<<

Anyway, I resolved that my tootsies needed a more tender breakfast environment to settle into, so my blisters could heal.  Going one better, I resolved to boycott this Diner.  Grow callouses! For days I took my tootsies to a different breakfast place.  But yesterday my hands played seesaw with the steering wheel, and lurched my car over one lane.  Into the offending Diner.

"You want home fries with that?" the owner asked.

"It doesn't come with home fries."

"That's O.K.  You want home fries, you'll get home fries."

I knew she wouldn't charge me.

Tears started to come.

I hurt.  I'm scared.

But the villain isn't people's blistering banter.  The villain is preferring to grow callouses rather than bleed every once in a while.

  1. There was/is so much misinformation and out-right lies told about Hillary. She's one strong woman to have taken so much abuse for so many years. She will continue to do good, maybe lower key thought their foundation which has an A+ rating with charity watch places, by the way. On the late term abortion issue, Hillary wants it kept as an option for cases like where the baby has no brain, is dead inside the mother, has no limbs, a mother's life is in danger like the woman in a coma, etc. Rare but real issues families deal with.

I don't understand why business owners get into political talks with customers. My cousin owns a small diner and he has a sign up that says, "No talk about politics or religion allowed here." If talk gets out of hand, he points to it and enforces the rule. I'm glad you stayed away from the diner for a few days. Obviously, the home fries was a form of apology so at least you know you heard, really heard!

I hope our country will heal but it's going to be a long road to that with a lot battles along the line.

    1. Hi Jean. Yeah, the free home fries was an olive branch. Sorely needed. It is good to keep politic and religion out of the business arena, but then one may go and make the mistake I did - live in a bubble.

I don't want to be complacent but I'm not sure which battles I will pick to fight. Have you any causes you'll support?

  2. Bravo! Flo for speaking out, checking facts, and returning to the Diner. I agree with Jean R. about Hilary. There is a place for her to continue to good. Now it is up to us to be active as we possibly can to counter lies and legislation that will bring heartache to our country. Thank you for your posting today. I needed that!

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Martha. I sure do admire good people who get into the fray of politics. I imagine the Clinton Foundation is where Hilary will 'retire' to. Me, I might draw a political cartoon now and again. Are you one to speak up?

  3. So great that you went back to the diner to talk to the waitress again. We all need to keep talking to each other. There's so much division. I don't know what Thanksgiving will be like this year. Like many families, we have different opinions about this election.

    1. Hi, Bella. Thanks for visiting! I feel good that I didn't slink away, too.

Oh my...Thanksgiving... I wonder how many drumsticks will go flying before everybody settles down with the pumpkin pie.

  4. Flo- to answer your question... There are two groups I used to be a member of that I might start supporting again w/money---The ACLU and the Southern Poverty Law Center. I'll be watching Bernie's group and may add that. It's early to know what group will float to the surface, but I do know Ryan is already talking about privatizing Medicare and I will join any group fighting that.

I tried to buy drumsticks yesterday and the store has not gotten any in! Bummer.

    1. Keep us posted, OK? I'll be looking to see where Elizabeth Warren throws her weight. Beat the drum!

  5. It's gotten far worse post election than pre. I worry about the holidays too, if people don't calm down soon.

    1. If Trump is able to kick the T University lawsuit can down the road, it may upset people, too. We need faith restored in an impartial and fair system. Doing my best to be the precious calm :-)

    1. This time, I don't think the healing will happen. For one, privatizing Medicare and Social Security are back on the table according to Trump's and Ryan's first meeting and the will be a bloody fight with the Democrats.

    2. If only we could agree on the route to healing. I feel consoled that voices long neglected are being heard. The wool got ripped out of my ears, and this is a good thing.

  7. Wow! Good for you for speaking your mind ... and giving the diner a second chance! Not sure I could do that no matter the topic, even politics. Maybe I have middle child syndrome and just want everyone to be happy?

    1. Does middle child syndrome mean you are a soother? Or does it mean the middle child doesn't feel her opinion warrants the attention? I know I need lessons on assertion - blurting out what I did made the prickly atmosphere even pricklier. All is forgiven now :-)

    2. More like keep the peace no matter how I think! Middle of the road on everything. I rarely speak up or out ... especially if it is volatile topic ...
